A new day

The sea is rough today

The sky turns to dark grey

The men on board are very quiet.

The women  waiting on the bank

with this feeling in their heart

That some men dont return the next night.

Their shoulders dressed with black capes

Their hair wrapped up with red scarves

The men are bound for the sea  -

not knowing comes what may

But tomorrows dawn is rising, a new  day.

They are waiting very quiet,

speaking no word

As the ship slowly faints away.

Remember the last time,

says one woman dressed in black

Twenty of them never came back.

Between hugh wave- mountains, storm in their face

There was no way back, there was no saving grace

Remind this sunday,

the shipwreck washed ashore

But tomorrow it’s a new days dawn once more.

They will standing there each evening

On the same place at the quay

Full of grief, dressed in heavy black coats

Sure they will pray:

"Please Lord,  die down  the storm"

And hope their menwill protected by God.

Every evening the children hear the same lullaby

That father will never allowed again to sail away

Then they are dreaming

from a cold seamans grave

But tomorrows dawn is rising,  a new day.

They are waiting on the quay,

the ship returns today

And Jack O’ Bryan is not on board.

But the bow lies in the tide-way deep

The fishing  was good, indeed

Hurrah! -  to the offshore- fishing today.

As the owner takes his contingent immediately

The fisher notices he hasn’t enough earned  to be free

But he mends his trawl

for the next time to sail

Tomorrows dawn is rising, a new day.

I sang the English lyrics of the Peter-Braukmann-Song "Ein neuer Tag" in Ireland /Ballybofey during our horse-riding-holidays 2008.

Thats the circle we like:

The basic is a short-story from Liam O'Flaherty  named "The red scarf", Peter Braukmann created a very moving song and I created the lyrics for the Irish Folks in English.
